There is always unpleasantness about this tandem. It is the theory of the man in front that the man behind does nothing; it is equally the theory of the man behind that he alone is the motive power, the man in front merely doing the puffing. The mystery will never be solved.– Jerome Klapka Jerome (Three Men on the Bummel)
The new edition of the Tapirulan Illustrators Contest is finally here!
We could say it in Latin: Tandem!, which in this ancient language means precisely ‘finally’, ‘after a long wait’…
And the wait, in fact, has been longer than usual, so much so that the Tapirulan Illustrators Contest comes out in the middle of summer, when some of you, perhaps, are on board a tandem, the pedal one, the best known, to caress the wind traveling around the world. But to move with ease the tandem requires collaboration and harmony: those who ride must trust their indispensable companion of adventure, the laziness of the one would compromise the achievement of the goal, at the same time the distraction of those who maneuver could lead to the abyss.
Why are we talking about tandem for so long? A word that might be buried in Latin dictionaries if it had not been reused in the English language to jokingly designate a light carriage drawn by two horses, arranged one in front of the other, therefore, at lenght, whitch in latin would traslate Tandem.
In short, let’s not turn around too much, let’s not go for long: Tandem is the theme of the nineteenth edition of the Tapirulan Illustration Competition! You can participate until November 10, 2023 by sending a single square illustration. At the end of the competition the jury will select 52 artists to be exhibited in the exhibition to be held in February 2024 in Cremona and subsequently in Genoa. The First Prize of 2500 euros will also be awarded, while the illustrator most voted by the users of our site will win the Popular Prize of 500 euros.
All the details can be read on the regulation, even in this case it is useless to go too far…
