Raining fire

Opera di Jeongin Mun

Technique:

Ink and goauche on paper

Description

I have expressed the theme of “voila” in a way that reflects how I am seen by the world and how the world appears to me. For me, as an Asian woman, long braided black hair is a strong symbol of my identity. It also reflects how the world sees me. Often, I am presented to the world as an Asian woman before I am seen as myself. I find beauty and pride in my roots, but they also bring about many unpleasant experiences in the world. It’s as if igniting a flame on my black braided hair, resembling the wick of a candle. Sometimes, I worry that the fire might burn me completely black. However, I will not cut my hair because of these things. Instead, I adorn it with pretty ribbons and welcome the flames. I send this painting with the hope that everyone in the world can bravely survive under their own flames.
