Let’s start from the end to tell you about Saturday, March 15, that is, the award ceremony of the twentieth edition of the illustration contest: Voilà.

In the Amati Pavilion of the Violin Museum, a good number of rabbits and carrots and a Napoleonic mushroom applauded the 52 selected artists, the winner of the Popular Prize Monica Garofalo, and the winner of the Critics’ Prize Anna Benotto (awarded by the jury chaired by Gilles Bachelet, composed of: Jacques & Lise, Maurizio Minoggio, Marcella Peluffo, Francesco Poroli, Ilaria Tontardini and Fabio Toninelli).

You probably want to know what their illustrations are, so with great promptness we immediately satisfy your curiosity:

Our very welcome guest of honor, Gilles Bachelet, was also present at the awards ceremony. A monographic exhibition of over 200 works is dedicated to him, to admire the work of this immense illustrator, from his debut to the most famous children’s books such as My Cat Is Really Crazy, Napoleon Champignon, Mrs. White Rabbit, The Knight Belly-Terra…
But the day had started much earlier… In fact, since it was the twentieth edition, we had decided to open two more exhibitions.
The first, at the Archaeological Museum “San Lorenzo”, dedicated to all the winners of the 19 previous editions. “The winner is” (that’s the title) represents not only a nice dive into the past, but also an opportunity to discover the evolution of the competition and in a certain sense also that of illustration. We can only thank the director of the Museum, Marina Volonté, for welcoming us.

After the inauguration at the Archaeological Museum, it was the turn of the exhibition “Par deux” by Jacques & Lise in the Tapirulan gallery. Jacques Maes and Lise Braekers are a creative Belgian couple who won the illustration competition last year (the theme was “Tandem”), so they are the protagonists of their own personal exhibition of about fifty works ranging from advertising and commercial works to editorial works, with the plates taken from their most significant books published by Pelckmans (some also in Italy by Camelozampa).

Now we can get to the end, or rather the beginning of this editorial, or rather the moment when we moved to the Violin Museum. Thank you so much to everyone present, you devoured all the carrots, but it was a great party!
