L’intera atmosfera, in cui una innocente ragazza viene fatta lavorare come una schiava da una madre pazza e dalle sorelle pupazzo è la roba da matti. mentre cenerentola lavora duro, facendo tutti i lavori di casa, la madre e le sorelle esprimono la propria vanità guardandosi allo specchio e vestendosi bene. L’ironia è che alla fine il principe sceglie cenerentola al posto delle due sorelle vanitose.
This illustration is part of the Cinderella story. It portrays the step-mother as the lunatic of the house, a grotasque figure who treats her step-daughter in an opressing manner, always screaming and yelling at her. Her two biological daughters also join in, following blindly their mother’s footsteps, and together they all turture the poor girl. The whole atmosphere, in which an innocent girl is made to work like a slave by a crazed mother and her two puppet daughters, is one of sheer madness. While Cinderella labors hard, doing all the chores of house, her mother and two sisters exhibit the vanity of their existance, always looking at themselves in the mirror and dressing up in order to look good for potential suitors. The irony of it all is that in the end, the prince chooses Cinderella over her two vain sisters.
