Descrizione
This work is a contemporary reimagining of the Shikargah, the traditional Persian hunting scene, inspired by an antique carpet fragment I discovered at Marché Vernaison in Paris. I was captivated by the “multi-scenic” genius of the Shikargah style, which allows a single frame to host a complex web of simultaneous narratives.
For this competition, I chose to subvert this classic trope to explore the theme “Flop”. I asked myself: What if the most glorious royal expedition turned into a catastrophic chain of failures?
• The Catalyst of Failure: The core of the disaster lies with the hunter at the bottom left, the Prince’s own companion. In a moment of absolute clumsiness, he misfires his arrow directly toward the Prince. This fatal error ensures the Prince’s shot misses its mark and puts the entire royal party in immediate peril.
• The Predator’s Triumph: While the humans fumble, the Lion has claimed the scene. It successfully hunts the deer while simultaneously positioning itself beneath the tree, waiting for the terrified hunter above who has lost his balance and is about to fall directly into the predator’s path.
In this piece, “Flop” is more than just a mistake; it is a chaotic breakdown of order. By turning the hunters into the hunted, I transformed a symbol of royal power into a comedic tragedy, proving that even the grandest Shikargah is only one arrow away from total collapse.
